Exploration and discovery go hand in hand. On every adventure though, it is essential to balance the desire to push ourselves to new limits without taking unnecessary risks. A key risk area to minimise is that of navigation: putting it simply, you need to be sure of where you are at all times. The GPS system has helped explorers throughout the world by giving them accurate grid coordinates. But what has been missing has been the ability to see this position on a map. Until now.
Satmap understands the value of putting high quality map data onto a rugged, handheld GPS. We have been working with the best map providers in the world to put the best map data available onto our system, and the result is the most comprehensive selection of high quality raster map data available for any GPS. This works well for the areas of the world that are well mapped. However, we know that the real adventures can be found in some of the less well mapped regions.
To allow for these more adventurous explorers, Satmap has launched a new service: if we don’t have the map data, we can put your own digital map data onto an SD card. So if you are venturing off the beaten track, don’t let navigation be a worry. Our GIS specialists can convert almost any map into a format that can be viewed on our GPS unit. This leaves you free to focus on the object of the expedition without having to worry about navigation.

How to order
If you want to take the opportunity to put your own maps onto our GPS, send an e-mail with the following:
- The location you are travelling through
- The type of map you have and the size and scale of it
- The type of format it is in. Please note that if you have a paper map, it will need to be scanned in, so we will need to know the file format (e.g. .JPEG, .PNG, .TIF, .GeoTIFF, .ECW)
We will put your digital map onto an SD card and make it fully compatible with the Satmap Active 10 GPS unit, enabling you to pinpoint your precise location on the map. Prices start from £74.99 / €89.99.
Before contacting us, please check that this is an area for which we don’t already sell a map title. When providing us with the digital map, you are responsible for ensuring that you have the copyright permission to get the mapping loaded onto an SD card by Satmap. Because we strive to offer the highest quality mapping at all times, before you incur any costs with us we will assess the data for its accuracy and suitability. If we judge the quality of your map data to be too low we may decline to provide the service for safety reasons.
