Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany is a cyclist's and hiker's paradise. Most of the state is covered by the fabled Black Forest whose enchanting area of cuckoo clocks, heavily forested mountains and rich green valleys are a traveller's delight. Thousands of kilometres of paved bike paths, walking and hiking trails, many of them through forests, along rivers or around lakes and numerous caves, castles and ruins lend a special trait to this varied landscape. In summertime, Lake Constance shines against the backdrop of the Alps with countless white and coloured sails, radiating a light-hearted atmosphere. The capital of this region is Stuttgart, the sixth largest city in Germany, which is full of green areas and spread across a variety of hills, vineyards, valleys and parks.
