Southernmost Spain, with its three provinces of Andalucia, Murcia and the Canary Islands has some of the country's most diverse landscapes. Amongst them the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastal areas, the wide lowland of the Gudalquivir river valley and the Tabernas desert, one of the geologically most interesting sites in Europe. The Sierra Nevada, impresses as Europe's second highest mountain range after the Alps. It is a dramatic and rugged area with glacial lakes, sheer-sided gorges and stony scree slopes. The Doñana National Park, in contrast, is noted for its flatness and was declared a Unesco Biosphere Reserve in recognition of its exceptionally diverse fauna and flora. Four more extraordinary National Parks are found on the Canary Islands: Timanfaya, Teide, Garajonay and Caldera de Taburiente.This map card contains:
