The south of Ireland contains the counties of Clare, Cork, Kerry Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. Exploring the city of Cork is a must. However, nature is the main attraction of this area, with west Cork and Kerry being especially highly regarded as beauty spots, which can be reached via sign-posted drives along the coast. Ancient monuments and bizarre rock formations can be found at the Burren, a near featureless limestone plateau. Killarney boasts tranquil lakes, charming castles, spectacular coastal scenery, breathtaking mountain landscapes and ancient monuments. Charles Fort, one of the most impressive fortresses in Ireland, makes Kinsale worth a visit. Great walks can be enjoyed on Bear Island, situated off the Beara Peninsula. Climbing the Brandon Mountain, near the town of Dingle, will guarantee some amazing views.
